Michael Avenatti said a White Male better be the 2020 Presidental nominee because their arguments carry more weight.
In an interview with TIME magazine published Thursday, Avenatti rejected the notion that diversity should dictate who Democrat voters select to running against President Donald Trump in 2020.  “I think it better be a white male,†Avenatti said. “When you have a white male making the arguments, they carry more weight.
“Should they carry more weight? Absolutely not. But do they? Yes,†the lawyer added.
Unsurprisingly, Avenatti received some backlash to this.
When did all of this happen? Did I miss something? I’ve only been a social justice activist for 30 years, how did I miss the fact that @MichaelAvenatti was such an ally and soldier for social justice?https://t.co/eVvCaUvlLY

Didn’t Avenatti say the Dems 2020 presidential nominee ‘better be a white male?’
Maybe it’s just me, but that really doesn’t sound like a white male holding white males accountable for white male supremacy and patriarchy. Maybe someone else has a different take.

See, this is that BS. Liberal Democrats agreeing with a white man that “America isn’t ready“ for a black or woman president as the rationale to only support a white male.https://t.co/yJQL9ps3tw

Avenatti responded to the backlash on Twitter:
Let me be clear: I have consistently called on white males like me to step, take responsibility, and be a part of stoping the sexism and bigotry that other white males engage in. It is especially important for them to call out other white males. I make this pt in my speeches.

Now, I wouldn’t automatically cast this as the end of Avenatti’s political hopes. Avenatti is agreeing with liberal arguments that America is a racist country that can’t overcome White Male Privilege. By using that to say I am the candidate for you because I am the only white male running.
