NYC car thefts up over 50% since Chinavirus lockdown

Car thefts in New York City have increased by over 50% since the Chinese Coronavirus lockdown started.

WCBSFM:

Car thefts in New York City have increased by more than 50 percent in the last 28 days compared to the same time last year, according to a report.

The NYPD logged 464 reports of vehicle theft within the past 28 days — up from 303 year-over-year, CNN reported Tuesday.

Crimes including rape and robbery, however, were down during that time period, the outlet reported, citing NYPD data.

New York City isn’t the only U.S. metropolis that has experienced a grand theft auto surge during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the outlet. Seattle and Los Angeles also reported increases in car thefts.
