Here we go.
The leaders of the movement to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) claim that they have enough signatures to force a recall vote.
Leaders of effort to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said Sunday that they have collected enough signatures to spark a special election this year.
At a press conference, organizers announced that the effort has gathered 1.95 million signatures in support of the recall more than a week ahead of the March 17 deadline. The recall movement leaders said they still plan to try to reach 2 million before that date.
“That is more than enough to be able to have this initiative qualified for a special election later this year to let the people finally decide … what is gonna happen with the fate and the future of California Gov. Gavin Newsom,” Randy Economy, a political adviser working on the effort, said.
“Californians are consistently becoming more disgruntled with how their state’s run,” he added.
Why should you care?
This would be the first major backlash against a Dem Governor who locked down their state. Gavin Newsom not only was responsible for some of America’s most authoritarian lockdown policies but also was caught breaking them on multiple occasions.
It doesn’t seem likely he will be replaced but even the embarrassment of being recalled is enough.
Another thing to watch for is Democrats going hard for signature verifications after fighting against them during the 2020 election. They are going to try to do everything in their power to not have this recall election take place.
