Donald Trump postponed his meeting with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments saying she would never discuss selling Greenland.
Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time….

….The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct. I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!

Prime Minister Frederiksen was quite condescending when discussing the Greenland purchase.
“Greenland is not for sale”: Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reacts to Pres. Trump’s idea of buying the semi-autonomous Danish territory of Greenland.
“Thankfully, the time where you buy and sell other countries and populations is over,” she adds https://t.co/sTd3LoZG4f pic.twitter.com/0a0wAGjPX8

This is the first sign that President Trump is extremely serious about this deal. It is clear that President Trump is willing to play hardball to get these negotiations rolling and it should be interesting to see what happens moving forward.
I have three theories as to why President Trump is making these moves.
The first is that he views this as a great issue come election time. With the Mainstream Press hammering every part of Trump’s agenda he likely viewed this as one that a wide majority of Americans could get behind. I am yet to see polling data on this Greenland purchase but my guess is most Americans would be excited about it because America has not done anything like this in quite some time.
The second is that he views this as a legacy builder. Every President is aware of his legacy and wants to leave an amazing one behind. Buying Greenland would certainly be something that would be remembered forever.
The final one is that Greenland has a ton of resources.
Infowars.com:
A 2008 US Geological Survey described the “tremendous resource potential” of the Arctic, estimating that there’s at least 90 billion barrels of oil and 1,670 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the Arctic that are “undiscovered and technically recoverable.”
These theories can all be true at once. Two of them can be true at once. One could only right. However, I would be shocked if none of these are running through the President’s mind.
UPDATE:
We have covered polling data on the Greenland purchase.
POLL: Trump voters want Greenland, the rest are lukewarm
