The “Empire” actor on Wednesday was charged with a felony for filing a false report in the racist and homophobic assault he claimed to have suffered in Chicago last month. He turned himself in to police custody early Thursday.
Smollett was paid $65,000 per episode for his co-starring role in the most recent season of “Empire,” a well-placed source told HuffPost. On average, there are 18 episodes of “Empire” per season.
However, to be fair to Smollett other reports say he made 20,000 an episode:
In 2016, when Empire was entering its second season, it was reported that Smollett made $20,000 per episode for his role as Jamal Lyon. With approximately 18 episodes per season, that would bring his Empire salary to $360,000. Since this was Smullott’s salary just as Empire was taking off –we’d expect that he’s earning a bit more since the show is well into its 5th season.
