The Arizona Senate has signed an extension on its lease that goes through June 30th.
The initial deadline was this Friday but it has now been extended until June 30th.
Of the 2.1 Million ballots, 350K-400K have been counted so far.
The Arizona Senate on Wednesday extended its lease at the state fairgrounds through June 30, clearing the way for its ongoing recount of Maricopa County’s general election ballots to drag well beyond its original schedule and into the summer.
The counting, which began April 23, faced a hard deadline on Friday when the Senate’s lease on the facility was set to end and its contractors were expected to clear out to make way for several high school graduations scheduled for next week.
An official at the Arizona Exposition and State Fair earlier said that extending the lease would be infeasible. And the CEO of Cyber Ninjas, the Florida-based firm the Senate has hired to lead the effort, initially estimated the counting would only last about 16 days.
