U.S Steel to invest $750 M in flagship plant thanks to Trump Tariffs

U.S Steel is going to add $750 Million to its flagship Gary plant thanks to Trump’s tariffs on steel.

Chicago Tribune:

U.S. Steel announced Thursday that it is investing $750 million to revitalize its flagship Gary plant to gear up for increased demand in the wake of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on imported steel.

The company said the investment will make “significant upgrades” to increase efficiencies at the 110-year-old Northwest Indiana plant, which is U.S. Steel’s largest, employing 3,800 workers.

U.S Steel press release:

United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) was honored to welcome Indiana Gov. Eric J. Holcomb, Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson, Gary Common Council President Ronald Brewer and several other officials to its Gary Works facility last week to announce a significant investment in the plant. With the increases in investment due to U. S. Steel’s $2 billion asset revitalization program, a minimum of $750 million in capital investment will be made to modernize and enhance Gary Works.

No new jobs will be added.
