POLL: 84% favor reforming the federal tax code

According to a New Poll from American Action Network, 84% of people favor reforming the federal tax code.

    The Washington Examiner:

American voters want the Republican tax reform plan, according to a new poll commissioned by a Republican group.

American Action Network, the political nonprofit aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., fielded a poll over the weekend after the House GOP tax overhaul was unveiled last Thursday. The survey found broad support for tax reform, and for elements of the Republican plan, which the House Ways and Means Committee is in the process of reviewing.

In some of the polls key findings, 57 percent of likely voters said their taxes are too high; 84 percent favor reforming the federal tax code; and 81 percent said doing so should be an “important priority,” if not the top priority. The survey was conducted Thursday through Sunday by GS Strategy Group. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

This is great news for Republicans for a variety of reasons. First, it shows just how popular Tax Reform is. People on both sides of the aisle are all for reforming the tax code. Nobody would get upset if the government decided to cut their taxes. Second, they have a chance to change minds. While the Democrats are going to claim this is not going to help the American people the Republicans are going to have the ability to make sure it does.

This is where the biggest issue comes in for Republicans. Look, they can’t mess this Tax Reform Plan up. If they pass a bill that is kind of good but not great will lead to people right into the hands of the Democrats.

The GOP has the ball in their court. They can either create a plan that helps the American people or allow the swamp to take it over and hurt the party forever.
