Pence has no regrets for his actions on January 6th.
During an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Pence defended certifying the election saying that he “did the right thing.”
Former Vice President Mike Pence says he knows he did “the right thing” on Jan. 6 in certifying the 2020 election and ignoring the requests from then-President Donald Trump to overturn the Electoral College results.
“I know in my heart of hearts that on that day, we did our duty, under the Constitution,” Pence said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network that was released a few days ago. “I don’t know if President Trump and I will ever see eye to eye on that day. Or that many of our most ardent supporters will agree with my decision that day. But I know I did the right thing.”
If Pence’s comments sound familiar, they are.
The former vice president, headlining a Republican county fundraising gala in New Hampshire six months ago, made headlines when emphasizing that he did his “duty under the Constitution and the laws of the United States.”
Trump has blasted Pence over his decision on Jan 6th multiple times.
During a TPUSA conference, Trump said somebody gave Pence “bad advice.”
Former President Donald Trump attacked his former vice president for not having the “courage” to reject the results of the 2020 election.
At a Turning Point USA conference in Phoenix on Saturday, Trump repeated his complaint that Pence could have done more to stop the certification of his electoral defeat on January 6.
“I only wish that my friend, Mike Pence, had that additional courage to send the results back to the legislatures, because it all happened so quickly,” Trump said to loud boos from the audience.
“You know, they schemed on this plan for four years,” the former president claimed. “This all happened so quickly. If he would have sent it back to the legislatures—somebody gave him bad advice.”
