Migrants being sold at slave auctions in Libya

According to The International Bussiness Times Migrants from West Africa are being openly traded in “public slave markets” across Libya.

These migrants use Libya as a departure point to then go into Europe. The issue is that these migrants come with little to no food and even less money. They are sitting ducks for these slave traders and most can’t be tracked because they have no documentation.

The price for these slaves ranges from $200-$500 each.

Survivors told the International Organization for Migration(IOM) that there are slave markets and prisons all over Libya.

Mohammed Abdiker, IOM’s head of operation and emergencies, said: “The situation is dire. The more IOM engages inside Libya, the more we learn that it is a vale of tears for all too many migrants.”

The IOM has warned all migrants not to make the journey to Libya.

“Migrants who go to Libya while trying to get to Europe, have no idea of the torture archipelago that awaits them just over the border,” said Leonard Doyle, chief IOM spokesman in Geneva. “There they become commodities to be bought, sold and discarded when they have no more value.”

The immigration crisis facing the world has now taken another ugly turn. The instability in regions across the globe has caused it to become a melting pot of corruption and violence.

The fix for this is not immigration into countries that are stable. Mass immigration has shown in the past that it does a great job of destabilizing any region that allows it. The fix for this issue is strong secular government in these regions.
