Bad news for Liz Cheney.
One of Liz Cheney’s challengers, Wyoming state Sen. Anthony Bouchard (R) announced that he has raised over $500,000 so far in his campaign.
Wyoming state Sen. Anthony Bouchard, a Republican who’s challenging Rep. Liz Cheney for her House seat after she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump, told Fox News that he’s raised more than $500,00 so far in his campaign.
“My campaign has topped half a million and we are gunning for the million dollar mark by the end of the year,” Bouchard said in a statement to Fox News.
Bouchard had raised over $330,000 by the April 15 reporting deadline and hit $400,000 before early May. That means contributions have continued to flow in at a steady clip even after the initial rush when he announced his campaign in January.
The bad news is that Liz Cheney raised $1.54 million from January to march.
However, looking at the number doesn’t tell the whole story.
The first part is that there are multiple challengers to Liz Cheney. This means anti-Cheney donations are spread out.
The second is that Liz Cheney receives huge donations from corporations and trade associations.
Through the first two months of the year, Cheney is the No. 2 recipient of donations from PACs associated with corporations and trade associations, trailing only Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) for the top spot among all members of Congress. That’s according to Federal Election Commission filings released this month.
There isn’t much business PAC money to come by following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, particularly for Republicans. Dozens of companies cut off PAC donations to lawmakers who objected to the Electoral College results and even more paused PAC giving entirely. Cheney’s campaign and leadership PAC received $74,600 from business PACs through February, a figure that pales in comparison to previous years but was second only to Schumer’s $111,000 this year. Not all business PACs filed reports with the FEC as of late March.
Liz Cheney is in trouble.
