A House Bill deemed ‘The Farm Bill” would take 2M people off food stamps.
The U.S. House of Representatives could vote on a bill this week that would force 2 million Americans off food stamps.
House Resolution 2Â would require food stamp recipients under the age of 59 to work at least 20 hours per week. That would include parents who have children older than 6 years old.
The House Agriculture Committee passed the bill in a 26-24 vote.
Supporters say it’s aimed to remove existing loopholes that residents use to receive food stamps without working. If passed, a state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program federal funds would be revoked unless they comply with the minimum-service requirements, 12News reported.
Those who oppose the bill says it cuts too much money from SNAP benefits for the people who truly need it.
