House Farm Bill would get 2M people off food stamps

A House Bill deemed ‘The Farm Bill” would take 2M people off food stamps.

The U.S. House of Representatives could vote on a bill this week that would force 2 million Americans off food stamps.

House Resolution 2 would require food stamp recipients under the age of 59 to work at least 20 hours per week. That would include parents who have children older than 6 years old.

The House Agriculture Committee passed the bill in a 26-24 vote.

Supporters say it’s aimed to remove existing loopholes that residents use to receive food stamps without working. If passed, a state’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program federal funds would be revoked unless they comply with the minimum-service requirements, 12News reported.

Those who oppose the bill says it cuts too much money from SNAP benefits for the people who truly need it.
